After having a chicken salad sandwich at Mary's I headed downtown again, cutting through Grove street and biking under the arches of the parking garage.
I don't really understand this bicycle thing. First of all, I think it's way too big, because every time I stop I like fall off, or have climb off very ungracefully. I also had some boys in a pick up truck say "Nice bike!" I have no idea if that was a real compliment or not. Also locking the bike up is interesting. The locals seem to just hook it to anything, I've even seen one locked up to a tree. This is what I did to mine. Mine is in the far back.
If you notice the other bike is like lifted up over the rack, and resting on it. I wasn't sure if that was the way you are supposed to lock it up.. I just locked up the tire. Then upon further observation I realize you are supposed to lock it around the actual frame of the bike. Which, this makes since because if someone wanted your bike enough to steal it, they would be fine taking the wheel off and leaving it behind. But they would not be able to take apart the frame...Without someone noticing... I hope...
I got cat called, too! A honk and a "yeaaaaaah!" I must have looked goooood. ;)
I stopped in the popsicle place and told the guy about the dream I had about the popsicles (yes I had a dream I was eating a popsicle... must have been hot). He laughed. He was very cute and seemed really nice. I tried Lavender Lemonade. It was very very good, however after a while it got kind of sour (as all of their popsicles are fresh, it had real lemon juice in it). The popsicle also had bits of lavender in it, which I didn't mind, but wasn't sure if I was supposed to eat them... I did. It was so hot out that the popsicle melted all down my hand and I was EXTREMELY sticky. Even my legs had sticky drips down them. Two old men, out of breath, sat down beside me and watched me eat this popsicle.
I rode a very long time after I ate the popsicle. I rode up the bay, across (perpendicularly) the Bridge of Lions and was riding and riding until I noticed the side walk I was riding on was so thin I felt like I was on a tight rope. I quickly got off my bike, and realized the water was VERY close to me... I told Mary, she said I was riding on the retaining wall... Smooth.
I then was so exhausted from riding up King and Highway 1 that I stopped into Mary's Cafe again and had the exact same thing as last time, only I had a large coke. The lady that is always there (she told me her name, but I forgot.. it rhymes with Mary. Sheri...? Teri? I can't remember) said "The same again?" I said YES!
After I inhaled the food, and moved from overheated to just very hot, I got back on my bike, waving at the lady who owns WOW a clothing shop where I bought my sunglasses and went back to Mary's.
Yesterday I rode up to Alcopoco (a Mexican place that overlooks the bay).
I also had a chicken taco with my Chili Relleno but I was so hungry I ate it before realizing I wanted a picture. The taco was VERY good, and the chicken in the Chili Relleno was awesome, however I didn't like the breading, as it just became soggy.
I learned that I kind of like saying "table for one, please". Mary said "I think it's funny you go to restaurants alone". I guess it kind of is. I love people watching though. It's also kind of freeing. I get to decide what I want, when I'm ready to order ect.
I then, yes, ate a popsicle. Papaya Lime. I didn't love it. I don't like Papaya. I had never tired it, and the boy behind the counter, that I now know his name is Sina, offered to let me try one, but he said they had used the last of them. It was really sweet of him. He sat and talked with me a little bit and offered me another flavor of popsicle. I told him I have to eat the whole thing, whether I like it or not, or it doesn't count. My goal is to try every flavor they offer this month. He said they have over 300 and some of them are seasonal. They change everyday. I ate this one inside because I didn't to risk the meltdown again, however it did melt a little. Sina offered to let me use the private restroom, but I declined.
Sina probably thinks I'm incredibly strange, but I enjoy his company and the cool, easiness of The Hyppo. So I'll go back, everyday, and try every flavor. When more people came in I headed out, as they only have one table. I walked around downtown, bought a bag to carry things in on my bike, and more sunglasses.
Popsicles and sunglasses, I think it's a great combination.
Today I have plans to help Mary's friend Maggie do some paper work. She said she'd pay me, but I don't really mind either way. I'm so easy going here. I have nothing to complain about. It's absolutely beautiful and the heat is worth everything.
I'll let you know what flavor is next, Mexican Hot Chocolate, perhaps?
Love all,
Sarah
